Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]fluorobenzoyl-folate (also known as [18F]SFB-FOL or [18F]fluoro-PEG-folate) is an investigational fluorine-18 labeled folate-receptor-targeted radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer. It binds with high affinity to both folate receptor alpha (FR-α) and folate receptor beta (FR-β). FR-α is overexpressed in various malignancies, such as epithelial ovarian cancer, while FR-β is highly expressed on activated macrophages at sites of active inflammation. Consequently, [18F]fluorobenzoyl-folate is being developed for the non-invasive detection and monitoring of inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, giant cell arteritis, and myocarditis, as well as for the preoperative assessment of tumor load in epithelial ovarian cancer.
